update on the latest news in NPCC at Mayflower Secondary School!!!
1. Sergeant Test criteria:
-drills section

drills: 40 marks
MOI: 40 marks
WOC: 40 marks
uniform inspection: 20 marks

-campcraft section:

campcraft theory: 50 marks
8 basic knots: 16 marks
5 lashings: 10 marks
tent pitching: 15 marks
timing for pitching the tent: 5 marks
able to peg and tie guyline without any help: 4 marks

the drills section is /140, which makes up 70% of the total marks
the campcraft section is /100, which makes up 30% of the total marks

2. This news is for the Sec1s:
hey guys, u can join us for CCAs this Thursday, 12/1/2012, from 3.30pm to 6.30pm!!!! our programme for u guys might include ice breaking games, so on ans so forth. i wont reveal everything here!! its for us to know and for you guys to find out! So do come down and join us this Thursday to witness what its like to have trainings at NPCC!

SG United Jamboree

The SG United Jamboree is organised by the Community Engagement Programme (CEP) Secretariat, Ministry of Home Affairs, with support from Home Team departments and the National Civil Defence Cadet Corps (NCDCC). There are a total of five workshops. They are Photography, Drumming, Cartoon Drawing, Drama and Song Writing. We are given two out the five workshops to go to. The opening ceremony was a percussion performance by us as they placed percussion instruments on our chairs and we are supposed to play it. It was a very good experience and all of us had a lot of fun. After the morning workshop is lunch for an hour , then the afternoon workshop. Then the workshop ended with another percussion performance and we had a kit bag as a souvenir. The workshops are very fun and we had a good time.

Hi everyone:D I'm Merlissa, Sec3, and I'm officially here to write everything about our NPCC trainings on the blog! So, for the next few months before next year, I'm going to write all about our fun stuff at CCA times! Well, to start off, I"m going to point out a few events for the next few weeks( Those that i know:D)
Wednesday: NPCC Service Day( details to be pointed out on the dya itself)
Thursday: Paintball at Red Dynasty Park!!!! (For Sec 2s who are 14, Sec 3s, 4s and 5s!) Time: 5.30pm Venue: Bottletree park:D Pretty Please, Sign Your Indemnity Forms and Consent Forms, Same For Service Day, pass up to respective CLs..:)

A new Beginning

As we have done with our annual NPCC camp, it is time for changes as our new Cadet Leaders (C.Ls) will be taking over soon. This new intake of leaders and changes that going to take place hopefully will help to improve the unit standard and achieve our goal. All the best and hope for a bright future ahead. Pls stay tune as we still working on uploading the pics plus still in the midst of creating our own unit website.

Results of CCU Competition 2010

Here's the moment where everyone is waiting for .......
It's time to announce the results of the CCU Competition 2010.

For the guys, they had clinched the 84th place !
while the girls had clinched the 78th place !

Both teams had achieved outstanding results while fighting between 130+ schools in the competition.

Thus, let's congratulate both teams which had done Mayflower NPCC proud ! :D

Hi Sec 3s !

As you guys know, the annual camp is just around the corner.
Please get yourself mentally and physically for the camp ! :D
( I know that it is going to be a tough one..... )
Remember the files that you guys have ?
Please make sure that all the notes are inside the file.
On fri, we are going to conduct a file check to make sure that all of the contents are inside.
If you have any missing items, pls get it done by this fri.

CampCraft Competition

Yo ! It's me again !!!

My reflection:

Well, the CCU team had done Mayflower proud !
We only had started training just about 1 month plus ago and now......
we were here, at the CCU competition !
During the training, we may have quarreled with each other, fight each other and even had done something to hurt each other. But, if we put a side all our differences and put in effort in the competition, we can make a difference !

Let me start with the guys, in the start they had not met with the timing even till the last day, they had only barely reach the target......
But on the last day, they had get together to practice and practice until they hit the timing. And on the day on the competition, they had done their best and be the best !

Now, for the girls........
Yes, I can agree that we might have not hit the right note at the start.
During the training process, we fight with each other and quarreled with each other, but they are just obstacles along the way to success.
For example, at the Area 4 CCU competition. the girls did not even train hard enough and thus losing the competition. But there is lesson to be learned from there, we know where we stand and we do need to polish up our skills. In the Area 4 competition, the gadget was only completed at around the last min, the flagstaff wasn't up and the tent did not even have the structure up! Yes, I can say it's a failure but if u look from a different angle, i can say that it is not a failure, it's only just a big lesson to learnt from a small experience.

Even till the last day, we even had a big quarrel ! And the worst of all, weather isn't on our side either. I can see that the girls had tried their best yesterday, they even had to practice in the heavy rain yesterday. From there, I can see their commitment to this competition and the big rain didn't not put out the flame in us!
And we only had 1 chance to practice yesterday and it wasn't even perfect.

Today, it's the big day for the girls.
When the sound of the horn had just went on, it was almost the surrounding had went on to a stand still........
Every girl in the team almost had a same goal in mind : Start as a team, finish as a team.
The flagstaff girls had did their best to erect the flagstaff up. And it was up within 7 min, compared to the Area 4 competition 1 month ago, the flagstaff wasn't even erected at all.
And the gadget was up within 5 min, a tremendous improvement from the original 15 min.
For the tent, it was up within 10 or 11 min. Compared to last time, it does not even had the structure at all. And during the training, our sir didn't even have the confident in us to built the structure up. He only expected us to erect the flagstaff and gadget up first before doing the tent. But, we had proved him wrong today. For today, we had everything up within 11 min and even have 1 min to tidy up.
It has been a remarkable day to me! This is just a miracle !

And I would like to thank the guys in helping the girls on their way to success.
Especially Vincent, the girls had to practice the tent yesterday in the heavy rain. He was there in the rain too, coaching us. He point to us every mistake we make and we did our best to correct it. Even though we asked him to got under the shelter, he refused. He still remained there, for us. Thank you, Vincent !

From a cadet/nco to a CCU team, we, indeed had came a long long way.
Our code of success is : If you can put away your differences, you can make a difference !

I would like to end my reflection with a saying:
"Don't wait miracles to perform on you, you perform the miracles !"

Promotion test result

Due to unforseen circumstance on the last parade, the results will be announced and release on friday (29 January 2010). Next make up retest date will be during the unit annual camp in March 2010. We will try our best to promote the testee but it will be on case by case basis.Do not feel dishearted if you are not promoted as you have 1 month to prepared for the retest.All the best people!

Uniform Preparation

Full Uniform PreparationPlease take note of the following on the uniform.

Males Uniform:
Beret :
- Worn level with forehead
- Brim about 2.5cm directly above left eyebrow
- It must be nicely seasoned
- Folded on the right
- Crest must be directly above the left eye
Shirt :
- Collar of shirt standing up ( Do not use starch )
- Sleeve line ironed from the back of the shoulder lapels
- Buttons are placed in correct directions and positions
- Name tag is pinned on the top of the right pocket
Belt :
- Polished and free of fingerprints
- Belt loops about 2 fingers away from the end of the belt.
Trousers :
- Trousers should be long enough so as not to gather at the boots
- It should be ironed nicely.
Socks :
- Only BLACK LONG SOCKS are allowed.
- Bootlaces must be tucked inside the socks
Boots :
- Polished and clean
- No PVC boots, only boots provided by HQ are allowed.
Hair :
- Hair must not fall across the forehead and touch the eyebrows
- Sideburns must be trimmed and should not extend below the tragus of the ear
- THe hair at the back must be tapered inwards toward the neck
- Hair must not cover the ear
- No dyed hair
Others :
- No accessories
- Nothing should be placed in the pockets
- Singlets are encouraged to be worn
- Spectacle hooks/bands must be worn
- No coloured contact lenses.

Females Uniform:
Beret :
- Worn level with forehead

- Skirt must not be too tight or too short such that it restricts movement
- Zip of the skirt should be in-line with the seam line of the blouse
Socks :
- Only Black socks are allowed
- Socks should not have gathers
- Socks should not be too loose
- Height of the socks should be the same
Shoes :
- Polish and clean
- No PVC boots, only boots provided by HQ are allowed
- Laces must be tied in horizontal manner and not crossed
Hair :
- Hair must not fall across the forehead and touch the eyebrows
- Hair must not cover the ears
- Hair should not touch the collar
- Long hair should be neatly tucked into the beret
- Pin up fringe and excess hair using black clips
- Hairnets must be worn of all hair lengths at all times.
Other :
- No accessories
- Nothing should be placed in the pockets
- Singlets are encouraged to be worn
- Spectacle hooks/bands must be worn
- No coloured contact lenses.

Tips on boots polishing

Boots/Shoes Polishing

Follow the simple steps below to polish your boots.

Prepare a solid shoe polisher(kiwi) and a smooth cloth.
Wet the smooth cloth but drain the excess water.
Wrap the cloth onto your finger(s).
Scrap a small amount of shoe polish(kiwi).
Apply the kiwi onto the surface of the boots/shoes.
Polish the boots in a continuous circular motion.
Add small amount of water. DO NOT add too much shoe polish.
Air Dry.

DO NOT add too much shoe polish. The shoe polish will eventually melt under sunlight.

Too much of shoe polish will cause the shoe surface to crack.
